Frequently asked questions
Why see a clinical psychologist?
Clinical Psychologists are highly trained and qualified mental health professionals who can help you to manage behavioural, psychological and emotional distress. Typically, you would meet with a Clinical Psychologist for an assessment and then, if mutually agreed, further appointments. Usually you would have a particular concern(s) that you wish to discuss such as stress management, depression, body image concerns, adjustment to living with a health condition etc that the sessions would be focused on.
Clinical Psychologists work in the NHS too, but unfortunately, there can be lengthy waiting lists which is why some people choose to go privately. When seeking out a private Clinical Psychologist, please make sure they are registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist https://www.hcpc-uk.org/check-the-register/
How much do you charge?
For individual psychology consultations I typically charge:
£150 for initial assessment or extended consultation (1.5 hours)
£110 single consultation or therapy sessions (1 hour)
£60 for brief therapy session (30 minutes).
For all other pricing queries please get in touch. I do offer some limited discounted spaces for students, NHS staff and other clients who may not be able to pay full price.
If you have private healthcare insurance please get in touch to discuss this. I am registered with a number of private providers including Bupa, AXA, Aviva, Cigna and WPA.
What can I expect from an appointment?
All individual appointments take place over zoom. The initial appointment gives us an opportunity to explore whats bought you to see a psychologist, what you are hoping for and also finding out a bit more about your experiences in the past. You are free to share as much or as little as you want during the session. Towards the end we will usually set some goals or consider some ideas for you to practise in your own time.
In follow up sessions, we would typically explore some ideas or skills that can help you to improve your psychological health. We might try some things out in the session together and we would usually end with a plan for you to consider in your own time.
I’m not sure if you can help me?
Please get in touch with me to discuss your concerns and requirements. I can discuss whether I can help over email or we can arrange a free 15 minute phone call.
What is the difference between a Clinical Psychologist / Counsellor / Psychiatrist?
Clinical Psychologists are mental health professionals who have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. We have completed extensive training in academia, research and clinical work, meaning that we work from a much broader perspective to counsellors. Typically, sessions with a clinical psychologist would be based on skills learning and development, in addition to space to talk through any feelings or difficulties.
Clinical Psychologists are not medically trained, meaning that we do not prescribe medication, like a Psychiatrist. Instead, we work from a holistic approach, considering biological, psychological and social factors that may be affecting your psychological health. Clinical Psychologists can refer you onto Psychiatry services if this may be of benefit too.
Can I follow you on social media?
You can follow me on Instagram and Twitter. I do not give out any personalised psychological advice over social media. I do not interact with any clients on social media as this would betray your confidentiality.
I will not respond to any private Facebook friend requests or messages as this would be unethical and against professional guidelines.
